Walking Near Water

An Artist’s View of White Rock Lake

BY SUE BENNER

SOLD OUT!

Art and science come together in a striking way while walking and enjoying the outdoors. Nature, herself, is an experiment in survival and beauty. She invites curiosity, awe, and the seeking of further knowledge.
Sue Benner

Nine years ago Sue Benner began photographing White Rock Lake as a daily devotion and artistic practice. She has been sharing her love for the quiet beauty of the lake on Instagram since then @bennersue.  As her photography evolved, the idea of a book — encompassing a broader view of the lake and its many aspects — took shape.

The 8x8 inch, 176-page book (now out of print) includes 150 color photographs and a foreword by SMU art professor emerita Debora Hunter. Essays written by Dr. Steven R. Butler, Charles Irsch, Brett Johnson, Sam Leake, Marci Novak, Becky Rader, Kathy Rogers, Chris Runk, and Mike Schmitt, cover subjects of wildlife, Blackland Prairie, volunteerism, recreation, and others.

For each book sold, a contribution was made to two non-profit lake organizations: For the Love of the Lake and White Rock Lake Foundation.
